Confidently explain the steps involved in assessing a patient for signs of life who is unresponsive or has collapsed, and recognise the signs of cardiac arrest 

Describe the correct technique and sequence for compressions and ventilations for an adult patient who has had a cardiac arrest

Correctly use an automated external defibrillator in the event of a cardiac arrest, and demonstrate an awareness of the communication skills and safety checks required in these circumstances

Understand the principles for resuscitation in special circumstances, such as for patients who are neck breathers or who are pregnant

Describe where you would find your organisation’s policy and procedures on resuscitation and Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNA CPR) orders

Recall and carry out the correct techniques to assist a person who is choking

Demonstrate an awareness of your responsibilities to remain up-to-date with resuscitation procedures
