TOMs - An Introduction to Therapy Outcome Measures Online Workshop
The Therapy Outcome Measures (TOMs), developed by Professor Pam Enderby and Dr Alex John, is an outcome measure that enables professionals from across many disciplines, especially healthcare, social care and education to track how therapy impacts a person's abilities and challenges. it tracks changes in four key domains:
- impairment
- activity
- participation
- wellbeing
TOMs has become an established outcome measure employed by many health services, both NHS and private, across the UK and internationally. It has been rigorously researched and tested for reliability and clinical validity.
Quick and simple to use, taking just a few minutes to complete, the resulting data is now getting fed into treatment planning, clinical management, audit and research; And the aggregation of TOMs data enables comparisons for internal and external benchmarking.
The training programme
This online train programme is in two parts. The first grounds the learner in the essentials of outcome measurement, including the political context, plus the fundamental principles of the Therapy Outcome Measures and the 'core scale'. The second focuses on the practical aspect of how to use the TOMs, with a number of case studies for the learner to work through and rate patients.
At the end of each session, the learner is presented with the correct answers to enable them to cross-reference their responses with Prof Enderby's, as a key aspect of your learning journey. You are also given the rationale for the rating of case studies by Prof Enderby, as part of the testing of inter-rater reliability.
The development of this new interactive online format to TOMs training, offered in partnership with Medshr, is to ensure continued access, in the most time efficient manner, to the highest level of training, provided by Prof Enderby.
