The Essential AI for Doctors Course: what every doctor needs to know about AI.

There were two key factors that drove us to urgently develop this course, which was watched live when launched by hundreds of doctors.

First, AI literacy is now a core clinical skill - like resuscitation, prescribing safety, or informed consent; and within five years, the doctor who cannot critically appraise an AI tool will be as exposed as one who cannot read an ECG.

Second, right now tech company founders, investors and politicians are deciding how AI is used in healthcare, and doctors need to be equipped to enter and lead those conversations to ensure patients get the best care. .

Presented by Dr Asif Qasim, Consultant Cardiologist and Founder of MedShr, these six focused 30-minute modules provide a practical, evidence-led, and internationally applicable framework for any practising doctor, to understand how to safely use AI and ensure it is used to improve patient care.

The six modules

Module 1: The AI landscape for clinicians in 2026: How LLMs works, and a practical framework for understanding the value and limitations of AI tools.

Module 2: AI vs doctors: what the evidence shows: evaluating AI tools looking at Goh, MAI-DxO, Google AMIE, and the Xu dermatology study

Module 3: Limitations, bias and where the data goes: Hallucination, distribution shift, Obermeyer, the Epic sepsis flag; and the single most important question: where does your patient’s data go?

Module 4: Radiology, diagnostics and clinical decision support: what is actually deployed reading your imaging, AI-ECG, ambient triage, and the algorithms running silently inside Epic and Cerner

Module 5: Ambient AI, patient-facing AI, and the front door of the hospital: ambient scribes, patient-facing chatbots, and how AI is already triaging patients before they meet a doctor

Module 6: Clinically-led AI: the call to action: UK and Data governance, regulation and the tools you should think about using at work.
