Airway emergencies are unfortunately common and all anaesthetists must be prepared to prevent and manage them.

We take a look at some well known cases, as well as reports, guidelines and scenarios to understand these emergencies better, thus helping us prevent and manage them.

Matthew Bigwood is a consultant anaesthetist in the UK and is part of the Doctors' Association UK (DAUK) committee.
