This module uses real-life airway cases, guidelines and reports to explore how emergency scenarios can be prevented and safely managed. It was developed by consultant anaesthetist Matthew Bigwood for the Doctors’ Association UK. 

Understand the dangers of airway emergencies as highlighted by the 2011 NAP4 in Anaesthetics

Describe the risk factors of aspiration and processes that can help reduce such risks

Understand and implement the concept of "no trace, wrong place"

Appreciate the impact team culture can have on patient outcomes

Be familiar with the Unanticipated Difficult Airway Algorithm

Understand the importance of appropriate training for all devices and equipment that may be required in an emergency setting
