MedShr: changing the face of formal medical education with Health Education England!

We are delighted to announce a new initiative involving joint appointments with Health Education England (HEE) to MedShr Education Fellow posts. Motivated and enthusiastic junior doctors will join the team as MedShr-HEE Education Fellows to develop this innovative platform as a tool for formal learning. Integrating MedShr into medical education and training will deepen knowledge and skills gained from traditional study and book learning by facilitating case discussion. The MedShr platform can also be used to support training, accreditation and supervision through clinical case discussion.

Since its inception in 2015, MedShr has grown rapidly and this private, professional network now comprises over 300,000 members in 180 countries. In addition to case discussion, the platform brings members together in specialty and sub-specialty groups, and has recently developed Local Networks to connect hospital specialists with local General Practitioners to improve patient care pathways. HEE is responsible for education and training for staff of all grades and disciplines in the NHS. It is an organisation driven to support the delivery of healthcare and health improvement for the patients and public of England by ensuring that the NHS workforce is equipped to provide the best possible service. Through this new collaboration, HEE are supporting MedShr’s aim to incorporate digital case discussion and sharing into formal medical education worldwide. MedShr Founder & CEO, Dr Asif Qasim, an NHS Consultant Cardiologist with over 20 years clinical experience: “This is a completely new way of working for MedShr and Health Education England, and as a young technology company we are keen to show how MedShr can provide new tools and systems to support medical education. It’s great to see HEE’s commitment to technology enabled learning across the NHS, working with private companies is a great way to make rapid progress.” This partnership highlights how HEE is pioneering the use of technology in medicine and its crucial role in advancing medical education. Working in collaboration with NHS bodies, education providers and other organisations such as Royal Colleges and Specialist Societies, the roles of the HEE Education Fellows will be aligned to each appointee’s own career ambitions and specialty interests.
