Temporal dynamics in viral shedding and transmissibility of COVID-19

Published 15th April 2020

SARS-CoV-2 viral shedding may begin 2 to 3 days before the appearance of the first symptoms. Study analysing the temporal patterns of viral shedding in 94 patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and modeled COVID-19 infectiousness profiles from a separate sample of 77 infector–infectee transmission pairs.

Protecting workers aged 60–69 years from COVID-19

Mortality data from the COVID-19 pandemic shows that nearly two thirds (64%) of the remaining deaths occur in the 60–69 years age group. This age group is particularly at risk if they work in health-care, for example frontline health-care workers and those who have been encouraged to come out of retirement to assist.
