NB: Public Health England has now moved to a different reporting time for UK COVID-19 fatalities, as family consent is now needed to release mortality statistics. Hence the reported figures may not actually be the deaths that have taken place over the past 24 hours, meaning caution needs to be exercised when comparing figures from one day to the next.

Latest COVID-19 Publications

Some key recent publications to be aware of:

Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19 with or without diabetes: A systematic search and a narrative review with a special reference to India and other developing countries

Published online ahead of print
Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews

Considering minimal risk upon use, a long experience of use in other diseases, cost-effectiveness and easy availability across India, we propose that both these drugs are worthy of fast track clinical trial for treatment, and may be carefully considered for clinical use as experimental drugs.

A role for CT in COVID-19? What data really tell us so far

Michael D Hope, Constantine A Raptis, Amar Shah, Mark M Hammer, Travis S Henry on behalf of six signatories

Published: March 27, 2020

The authors of this correspondence appraise the evidence which suggested CT could have a pivotal role in COVID-19 diagnosis and highlight some of the pitfalls.  Centrally, CT findings identified in COVID-19 are not specific to this pathogen, and are found in many other disease processes (infective and non-infective). Additionally, when groups of COVID-19 patients who had not been admitted to hospital were studied, most did not have CT changes.   They caution that CT scanners could become vectors of transmission if used inappropriately.
