ESC Congress 2022 Highlights
This year’s ESC Congress is promising discussions on cutting edge technology and innovation within cardiology. At MedShr, we are promoting case discussion and sharing highlights in the ESC Congress 2022 group.
We prepared a quick guide on what to expect at the event.
1. Spotlight on Cardiac Imaging
This year’s ESC will feature fascinating sessions and lectures on cardiac imaging, with interactive experiences at ‘The Zone’ all days of the event.
In Barcelona, spotlight sessions include imaging for pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, and during and after a cardiac arrest. You will also find sessions on the role of imaging on diagnosis and management of various conditions. For online attendees, sessions include the Great Debate on vascular imaging and lipid-lowering therapies and the joint section with the European Respiratory Society on imaging for pulmonary embolism.
Post your angios, echos, CMR and others on MedShr. You can add as many images and videos as you need directly from the MedShr app. Learn how here.
2. 20 years of TAVI
We see fascinating aortic stenosis and TAVI cases on MedShr’s Interventional Cardiology Group. Since the first transcatheter aortic valve implantation was performed in 2002, it has revolutionised cardiology. The procedure has become standard-of-care for patients with severe, moderate and low-risk aortic stenosis.
TAVI was the precursor for structural heart interventions, opening the possibility for mitral and tricuspid valve replacements. The procedure also heavily reduced the length of hospital stays, staff requirements and costs, when compared to SAVR.
At ESC, look out for the 20 years of TAVI discussion, with TAVI pioneers Dr Eltchaninoff and Dr Cribier. They’ll also be presenting a symposium on the future of TAVI alongside Dr Martin Leon and Dr Michael Borger.
3. New Guidelines
Four new ESC guidelines are being introduced at this year’s congress:
Ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death
Cardio-oncology
Pulmonary hypertension
Cardiovascular assessment and management of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
This is the first cardio-oncology guideline released by ESC and has been formulated by a group of cardiologists, oncologists, and haematologists. Highlight to the overview session, which will be chaired by Prof Colin Baigent and Prof Stephan Windecker.
4. The Future of Digital Health
Digital health in cardiology will be another hot topic during ESC 2022. From wearable devices, to electronic health records and artificial intelligence, technology is transforming healthcare. Expect to hear about the latest innovations in digital health from scientists, engineers and industry leaders.
A Great Debate will be held on artificial intelligence and the way it will change the practice of cardiology. Sessions on the ethics of AI, clinical decision support and big data will be available in person and online.
We are running a case competition at the ESC Congress group on MedShr. Post cases from your clinical practice and join the discussion!
